Like many Ecuadorians, we like to travel and get to know new places in our country. I was desperate to visit Loja, located in the south of the country, with several beautiful places to visit.
When I visited this beautiful city a couple of months ago, I was shocked by the many places you can see with family or friends, in which you will not spend much or pay anything.
For this reason, I have made a list of the must-see places you should visit if you go to Loja in the coming months:
LOJA WIND FARM
The wind farm is located 2,720 meters above sea level. It has 11 wind turbines with a height of 100 meters, which will reduce carbon dioxide emissions to 35 thousand tons per year and reduce fuel consumption to 4.5 million diesel per year.
From the center of Loja, it takes approximately 15-20 minutes to get there, and you must wait for turns to climb. In addition, you can only visit one part, which is enabled, and where the interpretation center is located.
I recommend you dress warmly because the wind is mighty and freezing.
JIPIRO RECREATIONAL PARK
I think it is one of the largest parks in the country; it is one of the city’s main tourist attractions. It has architectural replicas of the most important monuments in the world, such as the Eiffel Tower, St. Basil’s Cathedral, Mesquita Arabe, Eurolatino Castle, and Chinese Palace, among others.
It is a park dedicated to family recreation and among friends since there are many children’s games, sports fields, and spaces to lie down. You can even go with your pets; you must pick up their waste.
SAN SEBASTIÁN SQUARE
This is one of the main squares since independence from the Spanish Crown was proclaimed here on November 18, 1820. A church is located here, as well as a clock tower. Different cultural events are held in this place, which also has a pavilion.
ZOOLOGICAL
It was created in 2004 by the Municipality of Loja, and here we can find a variety of animals with spaces adapted for recreation and recreation. Here we can see giraffes, bears, penguins, lions, monkeys, turtles, snakes, and a great variety of birds, among others, that will surely fascinate you.
CATHEDRAL OF THE VIRGIN OF THE SWAN
This impressive Swan Cathedral is approximately 70 kilometers from Loja, about 2 hours. No doubt it is quite a journey to reach it, but it is worth it, not only because of its imposing but also because of its beauty.
The Gothic style predominates in this sanctuary, built in 1934, and summons thousands of parishioners weekly.
GASTRONOMY
Needless to say, there is an excellent variety of places to eat and enjoy the food of this great city, but you can’t miss the pork cooked with a blowtorch; it is delicious. I also had the opportunity to try recipes; I did not have high expectations, but I was wrong. You have to try this dish.
