Every generation has its series or movie that blends lifestyle and fashion. How can we forget Clueless, Sex & the City, The Hills, and Gossip Girl (BIG FAN) all showed a unique style that we wanted to have, but finally, one more came along to put up a fight: Scream Queens.
I’m not a big fan (not a fan at all) of horror or suspense movies, but since I saw the trailers and previews of this new Fox series, I decided to watch it since it mixes black humor with horror thrillers and lots of fashion, but lots of styles.
From the beginning, we can see Chanel, the main character, with the arduous task of choosing which outfit to wear for the day, and so, in each scene, she presents herself with one better than the other, mixing preppy, ladylike, and modern styles.
I know that the previous paragraph may sound very superficial. Still, I want to focus on the hard work of the costume designer, Lou Eyrich, who was in charge of showing, to exaggeration and perfection, each character’s attitude in the series.
“Ryan (the show’s director) initially wanted the girls to look sweet. The first thing that came to me as I was looking was macaroni in beautiful pastels, which inspired the color palette I used in the costumes,” Lou explains.
“I also watched movies like Clueless, Mean Girls, and Heather to reference popular and unpopular girls. I also researched Spring and Fall trends to start with the exact look for the character house.”
This is why we can see outfits that seem to be from the same house, Chanel, Moschino, Dolce & Gabbana, and more, in garments such as dresses, jackets, skirts, shirts, blouses, shoes, and other accessories.
And you, have you seen the series? I liked it, and I’m looking forward to the next episode; although out of 20 characters, they killed 10 (sorry for spoiling), the plot is exciting.
